In this class we will be spending time planning and teaching lessons designed for general & non-traditional music classes at the middle and high school levels. This semester we have a large enrollment and managing field placements and peer-teaching will be quite a challenge. But, I'm going to do my best to make it all work.
I will be posting the syllabus for MUS 393 on this site shortly, so please check back and download it.
You will need to purchase one book for this class
: Teaching for Musical Understanding by Jackie Wiggins (2001). If you have already taken elementary methods or introduction to music education, you should already have this book. It is not available through the ISU Bookstore, but you can purchase it online
here or other online bookstores. There will be a coursepack of additional readings, but these will either be posted as pdf files that you can download and print or they will be handed out to you in class already printed.
This class website will be an integral part of our class experience. Each of you will keep a reflective blog and post and critique teaching videos through the site video feature. There is also a feature that will allow you to upload an audio file. I hope to create a private teaching piece library throughout the term through this feature.
If you haven't already, please bookmark this site and make it a habit to check it frequently for updates.
See you soon!
