1. I couldn't add any more sounds or loops that I wanted to add. So I was left to what I was given by another individuals taste. I also didn't couldn't move existing sounds to where I wanted them to occur so I was stuck with what I could salvage. 2. In garage band, there are only the loops that you are given. There are places you can download other loops, but that is just really time consuming. Sometimes I couldn't find a specific loop that would fit the style I was looking for. In composing another piece, I could never find an instrument in the software instruments that represented anything like an accordion...sometimes you want an accordion sound! 3. I don't think it hindered me at all, well of course it hindered me because I couldn't add and change much, but I was still able to be creative. I could still listen to the loops separately and in different combonations and decide what I liked best. 4. This composition gave limits and loops that I had to work with. I also wasn't given the freedom of choosing whether or not to add bass lines, drums beats, and/or melodies. I was still, in this composition, deciding what loops I wanted to be highlighted and where. I also need to work out transitions, intros, and the ending. 5. I think it depends on the composers experience with garage band and/or abilities in general. I think this would be a really good exercise for younger students, because these students may have less experience with composing and the software, and the amount of loops for a younger student can become overwhelming. If you provide a student with a block of sound, you can make sure that it will include a bass line, a drum beat, and some sort of melody if that is what you want. 6. Students could learn how to make transitions and show their understanding of transitions. Students could also display their abilities to create transitions and their musical understanding of including a beat with melody and a bass line. Students could also display their knowledge of form and texture through their use of different loops at different points in the song and their choices of combinations of loops.
