On the Ning site, create a personal blog post (on your "My Profile" page) reflecting on your process of composing your aural sculpture with GarageBand. Consider and answer the following questions, and feel free to add other thoughts as you feel appropriate:

1. What were the musical constraints of working with another student's sound block?
One musical constraint was making sure that I didn't interrupt the flow of someone else's sound block. The other was making sure that the instruments and rhythms lined up.

2. What were the technological constraints of composing in GarageBand?
The technological constraints that I faced were not being able to use the exact sound clip that I wanted because it was not compatible with the clips that I chose. The other thing that really kept me from making a quality piece was that the Korg did not have a sustain pedal. Another constraint was not being able to print the music that I composed, so that I could have it for later.

3. Did those constraints help or hinder you (both?) in creating your composition?
These constraints did not hinder me they just made me have to think more about how to make the music flow. Not being able to print the music did not keep me from using it.

4. How was the process of composing an aural sculpture similar to and/or different from the free, additive composing you did the previous class?
It was easier to compose this because it was an instrument that I was really comfortable playing. I really enjoyed laying a track of my own and sharing it with others.

5. Did you find it easier to compose subtractively, as in the aural sculpture project, or was it easier to compose from a blank GarageBand canvas? Why?
It was so much easier to compose from a blank GarageBand canvas. I was able to lay a track of what I was hearing in my head. Sometimes it is nice to know that you can actually put what you hear in your head and GarageBand actually writes out the notes that you play.

6. What do you think students could learn and/or show about their prior understanding of music through this kind of project?
I think that students could learn how to make different tracks flow together. It will show their understanding of music by how they can make rhythms and different sounds blend to make a song.
